Sep 11, 2023

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today announced appointments to the Howard County Trial Court Judicial Nominating Commission. Alan C. Cason will serve as chair.

“The Howard County Trial Court Judicial Nominating Commission will be well served by this talented, diverse group of legal minds,” said Gov. Moore. “I thank them for answering the call to serve the people of Howard County.”

Nominating Commissions are established by executive order 01.01.2023.04. The commissions advertise judicial vacancies, seek recommendations for judicial candidates from their own membership, bar associations (to include the Howard County Bar Association’s Judicial Selection Committee) and members of the general public, set closing dates for the submission of the judicial applications, and evaluate applicants based on a variety of factors including their integrity, temperament, legal knowledge, and professional experience. The Nominating Commission meets to interview all candidates. Thereafter a voting session takes place and the names of nominees are reported to the Governor on or shortly after this Friday, November 17, 2023. When approval is granted by the Governor’s Office, the names of the individuals nominated by the Commission will be published. Then the Governor will interview the nominated candidates and make the decision.
