Chief Judge Barbera will present awards to young artists and meet with the students, their families, and friends.  More than 1,000 bookmarks will be unveiled at the reception and then will be displayed at the conference center in December.  A selection of the winning entries will be printed as bookmarks that will be distributed throughout Maryland to promote conflict resolution.

A thousand bookmarks, like this one from last year’s contest, will be unveiled at a reception for winners of the Judiciary's annual Conflict Resolution Day art contest on Tuesday, December 5, in Annapolis. The popular contest, sponsored by the Maryland Judiciary’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO), received 1,823 entries from students across Maryland, with 15 bookmarks chosen as winners and 48 as honorable mentions. The Judiciary’s website has a list of the contest winners and honorable mentions.

Students created bookmarks based on the theme of resolving or preventing conflict.  Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place in three age groups: kindergarten through second grade; third through fifth grade; and sixth through eighth grade.  Prizes for each age group are: $75 for first place; $50 for second place; and $25 for third place.
